The forth tell is the letter "G" in the Gerber name has the normal horizontal portion pointing back to the inside of the letter.Of the two blocks of the "stone" to the left of the sword, the the top of the one further to the left is lower than the one closer to the sword.The knife in the logo is in line with the axis of the blade and not slanted to the right,.The logo on your friends knife is considered the "Vertical 1" logo and was used 1981-1989. Of course blade length does you no good but I think it's safe to say your friends knife is from the '80s.īECAUSE the Gerber logo (tang stamp) does do some good. You can date it to within 21 years because that's how long they were made. They kept track of the S/Ns on the MK-IIs but not the MK-1s. There's much more information available on the MK-II and almost none on the MK-1.
